The Eastleigh Accommodation Support Team (EAST) offers impartial, confidential advice to help people live independently in their own home. This ‘floating support’ service formed in 1997 aims to prevent homelessness in a variety of ways to help with…
- Finding a more suitable home or settling into a new home
- Completing housing application forms, liaising with agencies to ensure they are processed and any difficulties addressed as quickly as possible
- Understanding tenancy agreements, breaches of tenancy and exploring solutions
- Support for people who are experiencing neighbour disputes
- Liaising on your behalf mortgage company / landlord with regards arrears / eviction
- Applying for benefits, to ensure maximisation of income. Liaising with agencies to ensure any difficulties are addressed as quickly as possible
- Advice on household management and daily living skills
- Money management: liaising between client and landlord or mortgage company, advice on general day to day budget management to actively reduce debt
- Personal development, training and employment opportunities, through supporting and directing you to an organisation / agency that can offer the help and support required
- Practical support, obtaining furniture and / or appliances, food vouchers, helping with removal arrangements
- Advocating in court
Over 300 people were referred to EAST in its first five years and as a direct result 95% have been able to stay in their own home.
Who can benefit?
Support is available to anyone:
Living in the Borough of Eastleigh
Aged 16 or over, including over retirement age
And have difficulties:
- In knowing your benefits
- In completing forms
- In managing your money
- In understanding your tenancy / mortgage
- In knowing where to go for advice and information
- Finding a more suitable home
- Communicating with your landlord or mortgage company
- If your home is at risk for any reason
How do we work?
One of the team will speak to you to see how they can offer support, or suggest other sources of assistance.
Meetings can then be arranged in your own home or a location of your choice. The aim of the meeting is to develop a support plan to help you make informed choices.
