Sheltered Housing
Atlantic Housing Ltd (AHL) offers a wide variety of services for older people who wish to remain in the community and are able to lead an independent life, but would benefit from the support provided in this type of accommodation.

AHL was formed in 1996 and took over ownership of Eastleigh Borough Council’s rented homes. It now has more than 900 properties that are set aside for sheltered accommodation.
This part of the web site aims to tell you more about what we do and tries to answer any questions you may have. It also tells you who to contact if you want to find out more.
Sheltered Housing Estates
Sheltered housing estates provide self-contained flats and bungalows for couples or single people.
The comfortable flats provide certain amenities for all tenants to enjoy, such as a communal lounge, laundry room and communal gardens. Some of the larger estates also have a hairdresser.
Our current schemes include:
- Maunsell House, Cranbury Road, Central Eastleigh
- Blenheim House, Blenheim Road, Central Eastleigh
- Sutherlands Court, off Sutherlands Way, Chandlers Ford
- Pudbrook House, Bailey Close, Botley
- Rodbard House, Manley Road, Bursledon
- Fair Oak Court, Mortimers Lane, Fair Oak.
For more information on each of the estates, please follow the links on the left-hand side of this page.
We also have bungalows and flats at Hamble-Le-Rice, which are in a very peaceful location close to Southampton Water, and 103 bungalows in the Cherbourg Road area of Eastleigh, which are believed to have been the first purpose-built homes for older people in the country when they were built in the 1930s.
The Sheltered Housing Team
The team cover a variety of responsiblities including:
- offering tenants support
- carrying out core housing management duties such as health and safety checks
- dealing with initial enquiries relating to rent payments and repairs
- making sure that their neighbourhood is kept clean and tidy and
- responding to emergencies.
The Alarm System
As a condition of tenancy, all homes in sheltered accommodation benefit from an emergency alarm system which is monitored by a central control service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A digital system that operates via a telephone line provides two-way speaking. Emergency pendants and, if needed, fall detectors are also available.
The communications link is very sophisticated. It allows main entrance doors to be opened remotely and monitors the alarm system. It enables tenants to contact staff whenever help, information or reassurance is required.
Each room is fitted with pull cords. Tenants can also choose to wear a pendant or wristband, which can be used anywhere in the home, to call for help.
